Over 60s Dinner & Show

Our annual dinner for over 60’s is by invitation only. We aim to invite all villagers over 60 years of age but sometimes newcomers or those of naturally youthful appearance get overlooked. If you think we might have missed you please contact Gilbert Smith (200430) or Sarah Palmer (252238) who will add you to the list. This is a really good evening finishing off with the last night of the infamous Rampton Review (first night of the review is 30th Jan and is open to all).

Rampton Review

The Rampton Review will have its first night on 30th January and its last performance will follow the dinner on 31st.

Family Christmas Party

Family Christmas Party Sunday 7th December 3:30–5:15pm in the Village Hall. Christmas fun and party games, with a visit from Father Christmas, followed by a carol service in the Church at 5.30pm. All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Wine Tasting

The Friends Wine Tasting evening in October was a hugely successful evening. We would like to thank our generous sponsors – Anonymous, The Cambridge Building Society, Leeway Building Services Ltd, Malary Ltd, Mount International Ultrasound Services Ltd (MIUS), open objects, Planned Finish, Sam Green (Rampton). We would also like to thank our presenters. And we really, want to thank all you great folk who bought tickets, came along, bought raffle tickets, bid for the leftover wine. By the end of the evening we had raised £597 for Friends funds

Dog Mess

Unfortunately, there has been a marked increase in the amount of dog mess on the recreation ground, so check your children’s and your own shoes if you have visited.

The Parish Council would like to remind dog owners that dogs are banned at all times from anywhere on the recreation ground. Leaving dog faeces anywhere and especially where children play shows a spectacular lack of consideration. Do as you would be done by.

Rampton Calendar 2015

If you would like a copy of the new 2015 Rampton Pictorial Calendar a few copies are still for sale. They are produced ‘at cost’ for £16.50, and will now be sold on a first come, first served basis. Please call 252996. Thanks, Trevor

Cambridge Walk

The next walk will be Saturday 20th December and will be led by Sylvia.

It is a circular 4 mile walk around Cambridge starting outside the Shire Hall. It will be different from our usual country walks but hopefully will make a Christmassy change. We will begin at 9.30am from the Shire Hall.

Further information from Sylvia on 252043.

Carol Singing

Tuesday 23rd December. Meet at 6.30pm on The Green.

We usually spend an hour or so singing around the village before retiring to the Black Horse pub for mince pies and mulled wine.

Carol sheets will be provided. Bring along a torch and wrap up warm. Don’t worry if you feel you can’t sing, all are welcome and collectors are also needed.

Proceeds go to The Children’s Society, a UK based organisation that fights child poverty and neglect, and helps all children have a better chance in life.

Contact Alison Bateson on 01954 208045 for further details.

Christmas Hampers

Once again, Trustees will be doing their now familiar visits in December delivering Christmas ‘Hampers’ to residents of Rampton who are 70 years of age and over.

If you qualify, and are not already on the ‘List’ and would like to be included, or if you know someone who would, please contact the Clerk to the Trustees, Celia Chappell, at 4 The Green, or contact one of the Trustees, Revd Kylie Hodgins, Louise Adams, Alison Bateson, Julie Lemin and Pat Mansfield in early December so that you can be included this year.

Exercise Equipment

During the first week in November, eight items of teen and adult exercise equipment were installed on the recreation ground. This was largely funded by the Big Lottery Fund and South Cambridgeshire’s Community chest.

There are three all-metal gym equipment pieces (arm, shoulder and leg presses and a ‘skier’ device for legs, hips and balance). The five timber ‘Fitness trail’ items are: pull-up bars, parallel bars, bench sit-up, a Burma rope bridge (for balance) and a log vault.

Those who can do a full quota of exercises on all items must be the village’s fittest residents!

Vacancy for Secretary

The Village Hall Management Committee is looking for a new Secretary, if possible to start following the Annual General Meeting in March 2015.

The Committee meet in the evening of the last Monday of the month, with the exception of August and December. The Secretarial duties are basically taking minutes of the meetings and keeping records. The ‘work’ is interesting and rewarding.

If you are interested and would like some further details, then please contact the present Secretary, Celia Chappell celia.chappell@nullhotmail.co.uk or telephone 01954 251908 mobile 0781 8827841

Autumn Litter Pick

The Rampton Autumn litter pick is on Sunday 2nd November. All welcome, meet at 10.30am on the Green. We’ll be out for an hour and a half, then back to the Village Hall for tea and biscuits. We have litter pickers and high vis tabards, but you’ll want some good gloves and wheelbarrows would be useful.

Come and join us and make a difference close to home.

Harvest Supper Thanks

Yet again, we enjoyed a fantastic Harvest Supper. We raised over £600 for local and international (children’s) charities. It came together because of wonderful generosity and can-do spirit by innumerable people.

Thanks to all who laid tables, cooked, provided produce for auction, made bids (world record for lemon curd broken), washed up, cleared the room, and generally did stuff. Hats off to Kevin at Bite Size Catering for making and donating the pies and lasagne.
