Blackheart are multi-instrumentalists Chrissy Mostyn and Rick Pilkington. Their unique music has been described as a heavenly fusion of folk, intelligent pop and classical music and as “Utterly magical” by the BBC’s John Gilmore and “One of the best things to come out of England in recent years.” by Fatea Music Magazine

After three successful albums, over 600 concerts from Amsterdam, Berlin and Sydney to London, Belfast and Glastonbury and radio play in nearly every country in the world, Blackheart’s pioneering music and unique sound remains difficult to categorise. They combine acoustic instruments and the voice of Chrissy Mostyn with piano, omnichord, electric percussion, electric mandola, bowed guitar and vintage synthesisers to create a new and very unique vision of contemporary folk music.

Their highly personal, haunting music led Australia’s Western Star to say “Blackheart take their audiences from heartbreaking to uplifting in a single song” Radio 2’s Aled Jones to simply say “A great band” and Genesis legend Steve Hackett to describe their music “Beautiful, powerful and inspiring.”

The songs they write are true personal stories and they tell fascinating, sometimes hilarious and sometimes very moving stories about their songs, how and where they were written and also about their unusual musical life on the road.

Their success began when their song ‘Unlike Water’ was used as the soundtrack to a major TV commercial. Now signed to Right Track / Universal Records, Blackheart have released three albums and three singles of which ‘Wednesday Afternoon’ got national UK airplay and led them to two headline tours of Australia and New Zealand plus successful tours of Ireland, Germany and The Netherlands.

Their new album ‘Songs From a Satellite’ entered the Amazon chart within 5 days of release and is available at iTunes, Amazon and HMV nationwide. It went on to be awarded second place ‘Album of the Year’ in the US Independent Music Awards. Their single Christmas Lights reached No.52 in the UK Christmas Chart and they continue to be played on Radio 2.

The Willows – Music in the village hall

The Willows are a folk roots family band from Cambridge. Fronted by the breathtaking voice of Jade Rhiannon, supported by rich vocal harmonies and sensitive acoustic musicianship, the band draw inspiration from the British folk and Americana traditions in equal quantity.

The band’s debut album, Beneath Our Humble Soil, was released in 2013 and has been championed by the likes of Mike Harding and Bob Harris and was nominated for Best Debut Album in the Spiral Earth Awards 2014. “…The Willows are a breath of fresh air to the folk music community…” Maverick magazine

The music itself is rich in power, with the band equally at home with pin-drop intimacy as they are invigorating foot-stompers.

Absolutely gorgeous sound – A lovely album – Bob Harris, BBC Radio 2

A hugely enjoyable album; with songs that engage and enliven, music that appeals across the board; a warm and wonderful release – Folk Radio UK

Following summer festival appearances at Glastonbury, Sark, Sidmouth, Broadstairs, Village Pump, Wilderness, Purbeck & Bristol the band will be on tour throughout the UK in September and October. We are delighted to welcome them.

Jade Rhiannon – Vocals, Shruti Box
