Ramparts Exhibition 2016

Ramparts held its 11th exhibition over the weekend of 16/17th July and we were delighted with the standard of work and the support of all those who came to see it. Local councillor Linda Harford awarded the May Rainey Memorial prize to Chris Dickinson for Abstract. In the “Win a picture” draw Audrey Neal won The River by Janet Stockley and Margie McEvoy won the Birds (Woodcut) by Linda Heywood.

Many thanks to the artists, helpers and patrons!

Annual Parish Meeting – Ramparts Report 2016

Ramparts 2016 Poster

Please come to the Opening Evening of our annual Art Exhibition on Friday 15th July, 6pm – 8pm and see for yourself the great artworks produced during the year. If you can’t make it, the exhibition continues over the weekend with cards and prints to buy (the coffee and cakes are good too!) Profits to a local village charity.

We would like to thank the Parish Council for nominating Ramparts for a SCDC Wellbeing Award. Getting out the brushes and paints makes everyone feel happier so if you know any Ramptonians (any age) who might benefit please suggest they drop in on a Tuesday morning. This is definitely a class for beginners – you don’t need to be able to draw, they will soon build up confidence and may decide to join one of the community classes.

Ramparts 2015: A critique by Watersmeet

It was widely known that this show was the 10th anniversary. So would it be tempted to be a retrospective? Not at all – and rightly so! Apart from a small section, it concentrated on the current year thoughts and works of its group of artists.

A surprising feature of these exhibitions has been that each has produced a new outstanding theme: this year it was COLOUR! Of course, all pictures are coloured, but never have so many been so powerfully rich and so daring. It has to represent the growing confidence within the group.

Pleasingly (as often in the past), amongst this array of generally agreeable pictures were one or two that would not look out of place in any gallery anywhere.

Their use of colour gave power to otherwise simple scenes, reminiscent of the final frames from James Cameron’s film ‘The Terminator’, where his wild landscape colours previewed dramatic events that were about to occur.

Ramparts Exhibiton

Rampton art group is completing its tenth year. It was set up especially for those people who said “But I can’t draw” and did not have the confidence to attend one of the local community art classes. So pencils were banned and with no focus on drawing, everyone relaxed and explored colour, light and shade and all the other aspects of both abstract and representational painting. Their drawing has improved too! Do come to the exhibition, on the weekend of July 11th and 12th (10am to 5pm, Saturday; 10am-4pm Sunday), and see what they produced. Or when you’re in Cottenham, call in at Lewis House, the GPs surgery on the High Street.

Ramparts were asked by the patient support group if we would like to brighten the walls with our paintings – part of their refurbishment. The group takes a small percentage of work sold.

Ramparts members regularly go by coach to visit exhibitions – Matisse and Henry Moore were favourites. If you would like to join us, come to the exhibition and let us know.
