Ten test pits were dug in the village over a two day period during April. The earliest finds unearthed were some sherds of Roman pottery dating from the 1st-4th century found in Cow Lane, which suggest that there may have been a small Roman settlement somewhere near by. The medieval period is also well represented throughout the village and the number of clay pipes from the Black Horse test pit tell us that popping outside for smoke is nothing new!
